The superb burled wood box has an interior of lemon wood, a fitting that lifts out as you see, and 2 compartments for playing cards. Ecarte worked in fine pique of cut steel, typical of Palais Royal boxes dating earliest 1800s (see our final image, shown with same period Palais Royal sewing box from same estate).
