Swedish Lloyd had launched her as the North Sea ferry PATRICIA in 1951, and then sold her to Hamburg American Line in 1957. She was HAPAG's only post war passenger ship and was treated to a deluxe retrofit. But HAPAG soon ducked out of the pax business and sold the ship to Eastern in 1961.
