The pitchers form with closed lids until they are ready to eat, then the top opens emitting a pheromone to draw the bugs to them while making the liquid inside the pitchers. The bottle shape makes it difficult for insects to leave and they are eventually dissolved by the plants juices. Pitcher plants thrive in a
