It has engraved in 'PAIX' which translates as 'peace' in French

and finished with a further row of diamonds set in a scalloped border

and the stone has an inner fire that is hard to describe

This probably explains why it was assayed in Chester in 1898

In 1649 King Charles I was executed for treason. Stuart crystal jewellery were made to show support and sympathy for the Stuart monarchy and the deceased king. Each crystal is an elegant square with angular corners and red pink foil backing. Jewels were foil backed to capture all the surrounding light by day or candle light.
