Pearls are made when some sort of irritant like a piece of shell or sand enters the oyster. As a protective method the oyster coats the imperfection with a substance called mother of pearl. It can take years but eventually the "imperfection" becomes the pearl. I think this is a beautiful metaphor for life. Our imperfections over time often becoming our most treasured features. This piece
