The history of the Palenques is a story of survival. The African people who had been made slaves in Colombia revolted from their oppressors and started their own free community in the jungle. The Palenque brought their fruit to Cartagena to sell for their livelihood. The tradition still stands today. This modern palenque stood proudly in
